Details of David’s entry to Round 3 – Dropping Cable Down Wall
For this round, contestants selected to move on from Round 2 will submit a video of them dropping cable down a wall in 2 minutes or less.

Completed task will result in:

  • Penetration in wall top plate to accommodate communication cable
  • The installation of protective material, such as a grommet, to protect the communication cable being dropped down the wall
  • Penetration in the drywall for a standard outlet height hole to accommodate the installation of an outlet mounting plate
  • Cable being installed in wall and protruding out of the mounting plate

Materials:

  • Cable- you may use any type of communication cable, such as 4 pair UTP, duplex multimode optic fiber, coax, etc.
  • Grommet or other type of cable protection
  • Outlet mounting plate

Tools

  • It’s up to the tech to determine what will get this job done quickly and professionally.

Wall Type

  • Standard 8 foot or taller
  • Drywall on both sides
  • Insulated or non-insulated
  • Cable is not to be installed in any type of conduit

What will the Judges be looking for?

  • Installation techniques, organizational skills, and ingenuity used to accomplish each step in the task
  • Completion of task within 2 minutes or less
  • Straightness of the mounting plate
  • Cleanliness upon completion of the task
