Langara Science & Technology Building Showcase the Glenco & AxisTech Teams

Responding to a construction project RFP from BC Bid; Axis Technical and Glenco Electric were awarded the Langara College flagship building contract for the Science & Technology facility. A long-time customer of Axis Technical Services, Langara welcomed the latest collaboration with these experienced teams and their understanding of the expected levels of quality, expertise and cooperation required.

Following an excellent design by AES Engineering, tight specifications, and understanding Langara’s quality assurance process, the teams scheduled a precise workflow for on-time deliveries throughout this project. The overall Cabling Infrastructure was comprised of:
– 1,300 Belden CAT5E Network Cables Complete with Terminations and Patch Panels
– Extensive Termination and Testing
– Multiple Gigabix Termination Walls for All Communication Rooms
– Installed 1,000 Belden CAT5E Switch Harnesses
– Fibre Optic Backbone Installation Between All Communication Rooms and to the Server Room
– Provision of 1,000 Cross Connects
Axis Technical and Glenco have a long standing working relationship and the teams used their cooperative approach to project deployments to create a precise workflow for on-time deliveries throughout. By incorporating a knowledge base of collective intelligence and communicating a project-centric mandate to their crews, both firms quickly adapted to the project challenges while providing technical solutions.
The Langara Science & Technology Building project was recognized by the VRCA – Vancouver Regional Construction Association.
About the Langara College Science and Technology Building
The new Science and Technology building is a visionary gateway into the Langara campus and an impressive example of form and function. It is located at the main, northwestern entrance of Langara College, one of BC’s premier post-secondary institutions. The 12,000 square metre building provides over five storeys of new campus space. The structure now houses specialized facilities for biology, chemistry, physics, astronomy, nursing, kinesiology, and computing science labs.
The new eco-friendly building adhered to LEED Gold standards. The edifice incorporates many green building features including: green and reflective roofs, an energy-efficient building envelope, low-flow fume hoods with adjustable sashes, and an energy-efficient cladding system. During the creation of the community-based building, the new Langara building adhered to an energy-smart policy and the highest levels of sustainable building design to become one of the highest rated LEED green buildings in North America.
