Following their success of a North American firm’s Phase One, Axis Systems Group was awarded the contract to complete Phase Two of the security upgrading for one of the existing data centres in Vancouver, B.C. Canada. Phase Two design and build-upgrade was realized over three months of summer 2016.
With 24 data centres in nine strategic North American markets, the corporation was critically in need of a technology-driven surveillance and security system, which included CCTV, Access Control and Intrusion, to integrate seamlessly with Phase One. A secure expansion was essential to the Western Canadian data centre in order to accommodate the growing client-base and the ongoing need for customization of product offering.
Integrating the new Sony HD CCTV and S2 Access Control Security System with the Phase One upgrade required running cabling, installing equipment and programming the system to the client requirements.
The main challenges were coordinating the logistics of all the security equipment, re-vamping and re-engineering the new equipment. Due to Phase One running at 100% capacity, the Phase Two upgrade would become the command-central for the entire data centre.
ASG addressed additional challenges by analyzing the system requirements and capabilities then reconfiguring the system to work correctly as per installation specifications and based on technical requirements. Real-world challenges included adjusting camera angles to accommodate the office structures and existing equipment, and sourcing the availability of precision surveillance and security products.
Post services included ongoing upgrades, training, and consultation. Additional requirements were installing Access Control to individual data centre “rooms” as per their client requests.
Despite these technical demands, there was a pressing deadline to deliver a state-of-the-art surveillance and security system. The ASG teams worked countless long hours for days and weeks to ensure the data rooms were completely operational as per the contractional agreements with their clients.
